As we move from October to November this week, it’s the time of year in West Michigan when the trees have shed their leaves for the winter and we’re bracing for that first layer of snow. The usual fall color palette of browns and grays has set it, making these bright strawberries all the more eye-catching. While raking the yard this weekend, red berries caught my eye in the grass. Assuming they were early wintergreen berries, I almost passed right by them. Glad I stopped to look. Otherwise I would have never believed it was possible to find wild Michigan strawberries growing in late October.
