    • Chocolate and Peanut Butter Whiskey Cocktail

Many peanut butter cocktails like to go the pb and jelly cocktail route since, well, peanut butter and grape jelly are just about perfect together. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a childhood favorite for a reason!

But nothing goes together better than peanut butter and chocolate. It’s the MOST classic dessert combination there is! Which makes peanut butter whiskey, chocolate liqueur, and chocolate bitters the perfect ingredients in this peanut butter whiskey drink.

Unlike other peanut butter whiskey recipes, this one skips the egg whites, Irish cream, and chocolate syrup, creating a rich drink from actual peanut butter and cream.

It creates a decadent drink and delicious dessert cocktail that's perfect for serving as a sweet nightcap. It's also a great way to introduce non-whiskey drinkers to peanut butter whiskey.

What's in a Peanut Butter Whiskey Cocktail

Ingredients for a chocolate peanut butter whiskey cocktail.
    • Peanut butter whiskey - There are several on the market now, so pick your favorite.
    • Creme de cacao - This is an inexpensive chocolate liqueur. No need to look for something more expensive.
    • Chocolate liqueur - Godiva and Mozart make the most popular ones. Choose the traditional chocolate option (not dark or white chocolate) for this drink.
    • Heavy cream - You can use half and half if needed, but this is an indulgent drink, so go for it.
    • Brown sugar syrup - Make this brown sugar syrup at home with two ingredients.
    • Peanut butter - Smooth and creamy peanut butter is the best choice for this cocktail.
    • Chocolate bitters - One of my favorite ingredients in dessert cocktails, chocolate bitters brings the sweetness into balance while adding another layer of flavor.

How to Make a Chocolate and Peanut Butter Whiskey Cocktail

Combine peanut butter whiskey, creme de cacao, chocolate liqueur, heavy cream, brown sugar syrup, peanut butter, and chocolate bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes.

Garnish with a peanut butter cup or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

    Recipe Tips

    • Double straining this drink keeps it smooth and makes sure any small pieces of peanut butter or ice are caught before they end up in your drink. Don't care about that? Feel free to skip the extra strainer.
    • Want to add another flavor to the peanut butter and chocolate? Swap out the creme de cocoa for banana liqueur or coffee liqueur for a delicious twist on this peanut butter cocktail.

Looking for other ways to enjoy peanut butter whiskey?

Try peanut butter whiskey mixed into apple cider or hot chocolate, or in this peanut butter and jelly cocktail from my friends Leah and Jay.

    Want More Sweet Dessert Cocktails?

Sometimes I like my desserts in liquid form. And while this chocolate and peanut butter whiskey cocktail often hits the spot, my creamy pumpkin spice martini and decadent sugar cookie cocktail are both delicious options when you're craving something sweet (and a little boozy).

    FAQs and Substitutions

Where can I buy peanut butter whiskey?

There are many varieties on the market and most are readily available at your local liquor store. Unsure about buying a bottle but want to try this cocktail recipe? Look for a small “airline” bottle at the liquor store. One 2oz bottle will be exactly what you need to make this recipe without investing in a large bottle. Popular brands include Skrewball Whiskey and Sheep Dog.

Can you drink peanut butter whiskey straight?

Absolutely. Peanut butter whiskey is sweet and when served over ice, it’s delicious and one of my favorite nightcaps. I pour a couple ounces over a large ice cube (that won’t melt too quickly) in a rocks glass and enjoy every sip.

Does peanut butter whiskey taste like peanut butter?

Very much so! There are a variety of peanut butter whiskeys on the market, each with their own amount of peanut butter flavor. I use Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey because it has the strongest and truest peanut butter flavor of any pb whiskey I’ve tried. Feel free to use whatever variety you prefer in this cocktail!

Where can I buy brown sugar syrup?

You make it! Combine ½ cup of brown sugar with ½ cup of hot water. Stir until the brown sugar has dissolved. Place the syrup in the refrigerator and chill completely before using. Get more information on my brown sugar simple syrup page.

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream?

Nope. Using milk or half and half instead of the heavy cream will cause the drink to curdle and the texture will not be anything enjoyable.

What can I use instead of heavy cream?

If you don’t have heavy cream in the house, swap it out for a heaping tablespoon of vanilla ice cream. Be sure to shake your cocktail very well before straining to make sure the ice cream has time to break down and dissolve.

    Looking for more whiskey cocktails?

Bourbon whiskey is more versatile than people give it credit for! Whether it's infused with peanut butter like in this Chocolate and Peanut Butter Whiskey Cocktail, shaken with ginger and egg whites in my Ginger Bourbon Sour, or stirred with fresh peach in my Peach Old Fashioned, this dark liquor can add flavor in so many ways.
