Summer blueberries, bright lemon, and bubbly prosecco combine with your favorite gin to create a refreshing and effervescent Blueberry French 75 cocktail.

    Blueberry French 75 Cocktail

French 75s were created during World War I when it was said that the drink hit you with as much punch as a French 75mm field gun. While the drink doesn’t seem nearly strong enough to warrant the comparison to a powerful gun, the name certainly stuck and recently the French 75 cocktail has seen a resurgence in popularity.

Homemade blueberry syrup adds fresh blueberries to basic simple syrup to create a delicious, summer-y syrup perfect for cocktails and mocktails. In this recipe, it provides a fruity twist on a classic cocktail creating one of my favorite blueberry drinks.

    Ingredients

Ingredients for a Blueberry French 75 Cocktail
    • A lemon
    • Blueberry simple syrup
    • Your favorite gin (I love New Holland Knickerbocker Gin)
    • Dry, sparkling wine (Prosecco, Cava, Champagne, etc.)

How to Make a Blueberry French 75

Juice the lemon and chill the lemon juice.

Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup into a champagne flute or coupe glass.

    Top with chilled prosecco.

Make Your Own Blueberry Simple Syrup

Homemade blueberry syrup for cocktails has only 3 ingredients and takes 10 minutes to make. It’s a delicious way to use those fresh summer berries! Get the recipe over on my Blueberry Simple Syrup page.

    Tips

Chill your ingredients. French 75 cocktails should be served cold. Most are made by shaking ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker, then straining and topping with prosecco. But I’m skipping that step in this recipe (less dishes!) by starting with well-chilled ingredients. That way we can mix our drink in the glass, making it as easy to put together as a mimosa.

Make your blueberry syrup ahead of time. Your blueberry simple syrup will be room temperature once you’re done making it, but you’ll want it to be cold when you craft your cocktail. Chill your syrup for a couple hours ahead of making your drink. I often make my syrups in the morning (or the day before) so they’re cold by happy hour.

Add lavender. Blueberry and lavender are a delicious combination. If you want to put a spin on your Blueberry French 75, add 2 dashes of lavender bitters to your glass before serving. You can also garnish your drink with a fresh lavender sprig.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a French 75 served in?

This cocktail can be served in a classic coupe glass or a champagne flute. The choice is yours. Don’t have either type of glass on hand? Use a wine glass.

What kind of gin goes in a French 75?

For this Blueberry French 75 recipe, choose your favorite gin. Mine is New Holland Knickerbocker American Gin, made in West Michigan.

Do you have to use fresh lemon juice?

Yes. There are only 4 ingredients in this drink, so they should all be as high quality as possible. You will really notice the difference if you take the time to squeeze a fresh lemon. Depending on the size of the lemons you have, you’ll only need half a lemon to get 1 ounce of fresh juice.
