A coupe glass of pomegranate martini with a slice of lemon floating on top.

This Pomegranate Martini is the perfect balance of tart, sweet, and citrusy flavors, making it a standout choice for holiday gatherings, dinner parties, or a fun night in with friends.

The deep ruby-red color from the pomegranate juice gives this drink a festive feel, while the citrus notes from fresh lemon and orange liqueur keep it light and bright. If you love cocktails that are sophisticated but easy to make, this one is sure to become a favorite.

Pomegranate martinis are ideal for special occasions because they’re simple to make, a little unexpected, crowd-pleasing and beautiful to look at. Try serving them for New Year’s Eve toasts, Thanksgiving happy hour, or even Valentine’s Day date nights.

Ingredients

Ingredients for a pomegranate martini.
  • Vodka – Choose plain vodka for this cocktail. I like Titos for all of my plain vodka drinks, but if you have a favorite, use that. If you prefer a flavored vodka, citrus vodka would be a delicious substitute.
  • Pomegranate juice – Use 100% pomegranate juice. I prefer the small POMWonderful bottles in the produce section of my local grocery store.
  • Orange liqueur – There are only 4 ingredients in this drink, so choose the best orange liqueur you can afford. Cointreau is my go-to. Grand Marnier is also tasty.
  • Lemon – Fresh citrus is a must in this cocktail, so squeeze a fresh lemon for your cocktail. You’ll need no more than half a lemon.

How to Garnish a Pomegranate Martini

This cocktail looks elegant garnished with a slice of lemon, orange wheel, or small lemon wedge. It’s tempting to use Pomegranate arils (the small juicy seed pods), but they will sink. (See proof below!) If that’s what you’re going for, then use them! But if you’re hoping they’ll float, pass on them for a slice of citrus that will actually float.

Make a Pitcher of Pomegranate Martinis

Want to spend your time entertaining guests, not shaking up cocktails? Mix up a batch of 8 martinis using the recipe below:

  • 16 oz (2 cups) pomegranate juice
  • 16 oz (2 cups) vodka
  • 6 oz (2/3 cups) orange liqueur
  • 4 oz (1/2 cup) lemon juice
  • 4 oz (1/2 cup) cold water

Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher. Stir and refrigerate until well chilled.

When ready to serve, pour into a martini or coupe glass, sip and enjoy!

Tip: The water in this pitcher recipe is taking the place of the water that the ice would add if you were to shake each cocktail individually. Don’t skip the water or your cocktails will be too strong.

Appetizer Pairings

This tart cocktail pairs well with rich appetizers like Smoked Salmon Dip, Bacon Wrapped Dates, or Honey, Walnut and Goat Cheese Bites, or Whipped Feta Bruschetta for a delicious spread your guests will love.
