Recipe: Golden Milk

Golden milk gets its namesake color from turmeric and is a delicious alternative to your favorite coffee creamer.

3 cups milk
1 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp ground ginger 
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 cup honey 

Combine everything except the honey over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture is hot, but NOT boiling. Mix in the honey. Continue to cook the milk mixture over medium/low heat for 5 more minutes stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. 

Taste the golden milk and if desired, add more honey – 1 Tbsp at a time – until it reaches your preferred sweetness. (Turmeric has a bitter quality and this recipe leans on the side of less sweetener.)

Allow mixture to cool to desired temperature. Remove cinnamon stick, pour into a mug and enjoy. 

*Store any remaining milk in a glass container (turmeric will stain plastic!) the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Shake well before using and heat in 30 second intervals in the microwave. 

To enjoy with coffee – Fill a mug half full with golden milk, top with strong brewed coffee and enjoy.
