A citrusy, fizzy, bright blue mocktail topped with gummy sharks, this drink is perfect for Shark Week, summer parties, and kid-friendly celebrations.

A hurricane glass filled with blue mocktail garnished with gummy sharks.

This Blue Shark Mocktail for kids (and kids at heart) is a refreshing non-alcoholic drink that’s ideal for Shark Week, hot summer days, and ocean-themed celebrations. Made with (naturally colored) blue curaçao syrup, lemon lime soda, and club soda, this bright mocktail is fizzy, refreshing, and easy to make at home.

Unlike many blue drinks, this mocktail doesn’t taste like blue raspberry. Instead, it has a light citrus flavor from homemade blue curaçao syrup and lemon lime soda. Finished with gummy sharks for garnish, it’s a delicious mocktail that looks impressive but takes just minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

Ingredients for a Blue Shark Mocktail.
  • Blue Curacao Syrup – Take a few minutes to make my homemade blue curaçao syrup to go with this drink. You can even make it naturally blue using blue spirulina powder.
  • Lemon Lime Soda – Use whatever brand you like. Sprite is my go-to for any cocktail or mocktail.
  • Club Soda or Sparkling Water – You can use plain or lime flavored water.
  • Gummy Sharks (garnish) – These tasty little candies bring the shark theme to life! If you want to make these drink for a baby shower or other blue-themed celebration where sharks aren’t need, just leave them off.

Tip: For the best layering effect, be sure to put the syrup in first, then the ice, and pour the sodas slooooowly.

Where Do I Buy Gummy Sharks?

I easily found gummy sharks at my local Walgreens, Target, and Walmart stores. (The ones in these photographs are from Walgreens.) You can also order them on Amazon, but only in large quantities. So only order there if you really need a pound or two of gummy sharks. I got a 4 ounce bag for my photoshoot and found it to be more than enough. >Get Gummy Sharks Here

Make Your Own Blue Curaçao Syrup

Non-alcoholic blue curaçao syrup can be tricky to find in the stores, so I just make it at home with a few simple ingredients. Curaçao oranges aren’t something I can find here in Michigan, but Cara Cara oranges or naval oranges will work for the recipe. And I make it naturally blue with blue spirulina powder. The whole recipe takes about 10 minutes to make. Get my full recipe over on my Blue Curaçao Syrup Recipe page.

Make It a Cocktail (for the Adults)

Want to turn this Blue Shark Mocktail into a cocktail for the adults? Simply add 1 to 1.5 ounces vodka, white rum, or coconut rum to the glass before adding the ice. The clean flavor of vodka keeps it crisp and citrus-forward, while rum adds a subtle tropical note that works especially well for summer parties and Shark Week gatherings. Stir gently to mix everything together before sipping.

More Mocktails for Kids

  • Unicorn Drink for Kids – A fun, color changing lemonade made with butterfly pea flowers so the color is all natural. Bonus points if you add edible glitter!
  • Classic Mocktail for Kids – This mother-daughter collaboration was my OG kids mocktail and continues to be the most popular one on my site today.
  • Cinderella Mocktail – More grown up than the name suggests it’s tart-yet-sweet and very fruity. Perfect for tweens and teens who want a more “adult” drink.
  • Piña Colada Mocktail – A classic cocktail shaken up without the liquor, we make this pineapple and coconut drink on repeat all summer long.
  • Fruit Punch (Non-Alcoholic) – A blend of 4 fruit juices with a splash of grenadine and lemon lime soda that evokes the flavors of fruit cocktail lunch cups.
