Nothing beats a cold, creamy frozen cocktail on a hot day. These frozen mango margaritas are refreshing and perfectly festive for celebrating the weekend, Cinco de Mayo, or just Taco Tuesday.

Frozen Mango Margaritas

Frozen margaritas are so easy to make, especially if you have frozen fruit on hand! I love using frozen fruit instead of blending fresh fruit and ice. The ice can thin out the flavor of your drink, but using frozen fruit will give you a perfect frozen texture without the added water. That means your cocktail is super flavorful!

Frozen cocktails are some of the easiest to turn into mocktails too. I drank so many of these mango mocktails the summer I was pregnant with my daughter. This recipe makes a smooth and creamy mango mock-rita. Just swap water for the tequila and use either fresh orange juice or orange simple syrup for the triple sec.

Ingredients

Ingredients for mango margaritas.
  • Silver tequila – Choose your favorite silver (clear) tequila for this recipe over the reposado tequila. It’s not aged like the gold tequila and will give a cleaner, sweeter mango flavor.
  • Triple sec – Choose your favorite orange liqueur for this recipe. I often reach for triple sec or Cointreau.
  • Fresh lime juice – There’s no substitute for fresh juice in margaritas. Always squeeze fresh limes. You’ll need about 1 lime per drink for this recipe.
  • Simple syrup – Easy to make at home with 2 ingredients, check out my simple syrup recipe page for the measurements and tips. Be sure to let your syrup cool completely before using so it won’t melt your frozen drink too quickly.
  • Frozen mango – Find bags of frozen, chopped mango in the frozen fruit section of your local grocery store.
  • Coarse salt or sugar (garnish) – Choose whichever you prefer – or mix them together – for the rim of your glass!

How to Make Frozen Mango Margaritas

Prepare Your Glass

Salt or sugar the rim of your glass by running a piece of lime around the top of your glass and then dipping the glass into a shallow dish of sugar or salt.

For the photos on this post, I made lime salt by zesting 1 lime into a small plate of coarse salt. (Regular table salt or sugar would work here too!) Mix it up with a fork before you use it.

Make Your Margs

Place the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, simple syrup, and mango in a blender and puree until smooth.

Tip: If you don’t have a high-speed blender, make sure you put all of the liquid into the blender first, then add the frozen mango. This will help your blender create a smoother drink.

Make it a Frozen Mango Mocktail

Making a batch of alcohol-free mango margaritas is super simple! Just replace the triple sec with orange juice or my orange simple syrup and the tequila with water. They’ll look exactly the same as their boozy counterparts and taste amazing!

FAQs

My frozen margarita is too thick. How do I thin it out?

Add a little water to the blender, 1 oz at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

I don’t have frozen mango. Can I use ice cubes with fresh mango?

Yes! If the only mango on hand is fresh, just add 4-5 ice cubes to your blender along with the other ingredients. Note that your drink will thin out as the ice melts in your glass.

How do you thicken a frozen margarita?

If your frozen mango margarita is too thin for your liking, put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. Or you can add ice cubes to the blender – 2 or 3 at a time – until the desired consistency is reached. Note that your drink will thin out as the ice melts in your glass.

How do you make a frozen mango margarita without triple sec?

You can use any orange liqueur – like Cointreu or Grand Marnier – in place of the triple sec. If you’re looking to get rid of the orange liqueur completely, substitute the triple sec for orange syrup or even fresh orange juice. Using fresh juice is a great way to make this a skinny margarita and cut some calories.

Can I use other fruit?

Yes! Make a frozen strawberry margarita or frozen peach margarita by swapping out the frozen fruit. You may need to increase the simple syrup, depending on the tartness of your fruit, so taste and adjust as needed.
