Skip to RecipeThis grilled barbecue chicken flatbread is a super easy meal for any busy night or a super quick appetizer for last minute guests. It’s ready in just 15 minutes, and easy to customize for every member of the family.

The best part is that this flatbread recipe will turn family pizza night into an easy weeknight dinner. Similar to the bbq chicken pizza at California Pizza Kitchen, this grilled bbq chicken flatbread pizza is sure to be your new favorite way to get dinner on the table in a hurry. It’s a great way to use up leftover chicken or the rotisserie chicken you bought at the store.
No air fryer or other special kitchen equipment needed! Use your grill or cook the pizza in your oven, if you prefer. (See below the recipe card for oven direction.)
This recipe makes a great meal, but can double as an appetizer. Simply cut the flatbread into small, 2 inch pieces, and serve it at your next backyard happy hour. It goes really well with my paloma cocktail or paloma mocktail.
Ingredients

- Barbecue sauce – Choose your favorite sauce for this recipe.
- Cooked chicken – Leftover grilled chicken works great here, as does a rotisserie chicken from the store.
- Mozzarella cheese – Shred a block of mozzarella cheese for the best flavor and melt.
- Red onion – A mild white onion can also be used if you don’t have red onion available.
- Corn – Frozen corn is used in this recipe, but you can use fresh corn. Just cut it off the cob and steam it for 3-4 minutes before using it in on your flatbread.
- Flatbread or naan bread – Choose your favorite brand. We use Trader Joe’s frozen naan bread in our house. Many stores carry naan bread in their deli sections.
- Cilantro – This adds great fresh flavor, but skip it if you don’t like cilantro.
- Avocado – Ripe avocado adds the perfect creamy topping to this flatbread pizza.
How to Make BBQ Chicken Flatbread (Step by Step)

Equipment
Make This Flatbread in the Oven
Want to make this barbecue flatbread in the oven instead of on the grill? No problem! Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Follow the recipe, but instead of placing the prepared flatbread onto the grill, bake the flatbreads on ungreased cookie sheets for 10-12 minutes or until the bottom is crispy.
Recipe Tips
Buy a cooked chicken. Speed up the prep time on this flatbread by purchasing a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store.
Add other pizza topping options. This easy flatbread pizza is also delicious with cooked bacon, fresh pineapple, green pepper, red bell pepper, and/or green onion on it. Add any that you like to the bbq chicken flatbread pizza before you cook it.
Cook your chicken ahead of time. Use my slow cooker roast chicken recipe to do the least amount of work to make a juicy, tender chicken at home. Perfect for when you don’t have time to stop at the store, or already have raw chicken in the fridge ready to cook.

Switch Up the Barbecue Sauce
While you can use any kind of barbecue sauce you like in this recipe (Sweet Baby Rays is a favorite!), you can also tone down the bbq flavor by putting the sauce in a small bowl and mixing in a little ranch dressing before spreading it on the flatbread crusts. This can help make the flatbread more kid-friendly if you have picky eaters who don’t like the chili powder in regular barbecue sauce.
Cocktails to Serve with Grilled Barbecue Chicken Flatbreads
These warm and crisp flatbreads are best served with a light and refreshing cocktail. Try something fruity like a mango mojito or bourbon smash, stir up a spicy Kentucky mule, or shake up a delicious cucumber vodka martini.
