The Mango Mojito – a tropical twist on the classic Cuban favorite – is a fruity and refreshing summer sip. This cocktail combines sweet and juicy ripe mango with fresh mint, zesty lime, and a splash of bubbly soda water. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and tart making it a crowd-pleasing drink for warm days or a casual summer dinner party.

Mango Mojitos are incredibly easy to make and require just a handful of fresh ingredients found at the local grocery store. This variation on a traditional mojito can be made from fresh mango or mango juice.

This fresh mango mojito recipe is a twist on the classic mojito drink. Made with minimal bar tools and simply muddled in a tall glass, this cocktail is ideal for summer entertaining. From backyard barbecues to beach happy hours, Mango Mojitos are a tropical escape in every glass. And with so many ways to personalize your mojito – different rums, fruit add-ins, and fun garnishes – it’s a recipe that keeps things interesting sip after sip.

Ingredients

Ingredients for mango mojitos.
  • Fresh mango – Choose either fresh mango chunks or frozen mango pieces that have been thawed. You can also trade the fresh mango for 2 ounces of mango puree or mango juice if you prefer.
  • Fresh mint – There’s no substitute for fresh mint and it’s a key ingredient in this cocktail. Do not use dried mint.
  • Limes – You need lime juice for your drink and lime wedges for garnish, so fresh limes are your only option here. You’ll need about 1 lime per drink.
  • Simple syrup – I prefer simple syrup instead of sugar cubes because the syrup blends easier with the other ingredients and isn’t as likely to settle into the bottom of your glass.
  • Light rum – Choose your favorite light or white rum for this mojito. Bacardi is the classic option and a great choice. Skip the darker rums as they will overpower the mango flavor.
  • Club soda or sparkling water – Choose your favorite plain fizzy water or mineral water. Or up the flavor with a mango or lime flavored sparkling water.

How to Make a Mango Mojito

A hand placing a muddler into a glass of mango, lime, and mint.

Combine mint leaves, mango chunks, and lime juice in a tall glass. Muddle until the mango has broken down. Your mango should be super ripe so muddling shouldn’t destroy your mint.

Rum being poured into a glass.

Add the simple syrup and rum. Stir to combine, then fill the glass with ice cubes.

Sparkling water being poured into a tall glass with mango and mint.

Top with club soda or sparkling water. Up the flavor by choosing mango or lime sparkling water. Place a large sprig of mint in the palm of your hand and clap the other hand over it to release the fragrance in the mint. Add it into your drink.

A hand squeezing a fresh lime wedge over a glass of mango mojito.

Garnish with a lime wedge. I like to squeeze the lime wedge over the drink before dropping it in as garnish. Stir gently, sip and enjoy!

The Best Rum for Mojitos

The key to a great mojito lies in choosing the right rum. For the best results, go with a light or white rum. These rums are crisp and clean, allowing the mango, mint, and lime to shine. Bacardi is a smooth, affordable classic rum that’s widely available. Want to play with flavor? Try a mango- or coconut-infused rum to intensify the tropical vibes. Just steer clear of dark rum or spiced rum for this recipe – they’ll overpower the fresh fruit flavors.

Pro Tip

The only special bar tools needed for this recipe are a muddler and bar spoon. Don’t have a metal or wooden muddler on hand? Use the handle on a wooden spoon to mash up the mint and mango. Don’t have a bar spoon to stir everything in your tall glass? Use a butter knife or chopstick.
