The classic mojito is about as refreshing as a cocktail can be. Mint, lime, a little sweet, a lot fizzy – it’s the perfect drink for a warm day or any time you want to sip something light and bubbly.

Classic Rum Mojitos

Mojitos are also super easy to customize or make into a mocktail. Adjust the simple syrup more or less to taste. Toss in your favorite fruit while muddling the mint and lime to make a fresh mojito variation. Or use a fruit flavored syrup or mint syrup in place of the simple syrup. Swap the rum for a little more syrup and you have a delicious mocktail. Mojitos really are a super versatile drink!

Ingredients

Ingredients for mojito cocktails.
  • White rum – Choose your favorite white rum for this recipe. I love Bacardi for a classic mojito.
  • Simple syrup – Make your simple syrup from white sugar and water a few hours before cocktail time so there’s time for it to cool completely before using in your mojito. Simple syrup will keep for up to 3 weeks in the refrigerator. Get more info on my simple syrup recipe page. Or swap out plain simple syrup for homemade mint syrup.
  • Lime – Skip the bottled lime juice. The flavors of this drink come from lime and mint. You need fresh for both. Squeeze a fresh lime. You’ll need about 1 per drink. It’s worth the effort. Promise.
  • Fresh mint leaves – There are ZERO substitutions for the fresh mint. Don’t try to make this using mint extract or other mint flavorings. Fresh mint is easy to grow or find at your local grocery store.
  • Club soda or sparkling water – Choose your favorite plain, fizzy water for this cocktail.
