This Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn – aka Snickerdoodle Popcorn – is delicious and hard to stop eating! The cinnamon and sugar is cooked onto the popcorn, not shaken on top, so the sugar caramelizes and it doesn’t fall off as you’re eating your snack.

When my daughter started requesting cinnamon popcorn, I had no idea how to make that happen. The results of a lot of experimentation and testing is this snickerdoodle popcorn recipe!

It’s a sweet popcorn recipe that cooks like kettle corn, making it high susceptible to burning because of the sugar, but all you have to do it keep your eye on it and you’ll end up with a delicious cinnamon sugar sweet treat for your next family movie night.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Snickerdoodle popcorn.
  • Canola oil – You need an oil that can tolerate high heat and has a neutral taste. Corn oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil all work great. Do not use olive oil. It can’t take the heat.
  • Popcorn kernels – Any kind of quality popcorn kernels will work. White, yellow – take your pick.
  • Sugar – Regular white sugar works best in this recipe. Do not replace it with a sugar alternative (like Splenda) or more natural sweetener (like agave syrup or maple syrup).
  • Cinnamon – Choose your favorite brand of ground cinnamon.
  • Butter – Either salted or unsalted dairy butter will work in this recipe.
  • Salt – A little salt to set off the sweet in the popcorn. Feel free to adjust this to your taste preferences.

1 Tbsp sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Put a lid on the pot.

  • Let the popcorn pop until there’s 2 seconds between pops. IMMEDIATELY remove from heat.

  • Drizzle with melted butter and sprinkle with salt.
    1 tsp salt
  • Toss the popcorn to combine.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Because of the sugar, the popcorn will burn easily. Be sure to immediately remove it from the stove once there’s a couple seconds between pops and immediately remove it from the pot once it’s done.
