This easy pomegranate lemonade is a refreshing combination of tangy lemon and sweet pomegranate flavors, creating a refreshing drink that is perfect for any occasion.

Nothing says “summer drink” like homemade lemonade and this pomegranate lemonade is a delicious addition to summer parties. Its sweet and tart flavor profile complements grilled meats, fresh salads, and other summer favorites, making it a perfect beverage choice for outdoor dining. Plus it’s so easy to make! 

While pomegranates are in season during the fall and winter months, the availability of quality store-bought pomegranate juice and seeds makes it easy to stir up this refreshing beverage year-round. Pomegranate lemonade offers a family-friendly option for gatherings and celebrations, providing a refreshing and flavorful drink that everyone can enjoy.

What’s in Pomegranate Lemonade

Ingredient for pomegranate lemonade.
  • Fresh lemons – Squeezing fresh lemons will get you the best flavor, though it will take a little bit of effort. You’ll need between 6-8 large lemons for a full pitcher of lemonade. If you can find fresh squeezed lemon juice at your local grocery story, use that instead. If you must use bottled juice, get a high quality one like Real Lemon. 
  • Pomegranate juice – Easily found at most large grocery stores, look for 100% pomegranate juice and not a blend of multiple juices or flavors. 
  • Simple syrup – Equal parts sugar and water, simple syrup is easy to make a hot and the ideal liquid sweetener for lemonade. The amount of simple syrup in this recipe is exactly what one batch of my syrup recipe makes. Get all the information on my simple syrup recipe page. 
  • Water – Cold, filtered water works best in this recipe. Swap it out for chilled sparkling water or club soda if you prefer. 

How to Make Pomegranate Lemonade

Combine lemon juice, pomegranate juice, simple syrup, and water in a large pitcher.

Stir well to combine.

Make Pomegranate Lemonade By The Glass 

To stir up a quick glass of lemonade, combine 1.25 oz fresh lemon juice, 1.25 oz pomegranate juice, 2 oz simple syrup, and 4 oz water in a tall glass. Stir well. Add ice cubes to fill the glass. 

Garnish with lemon slices, pomegranate arils, and/or a mint sprig.

Variations on Pomegranate Lemonade 

Changing the flavor of the simple syrup is an easy way to create variations on pomegranate lemonade. Try blueberry syrup for blueberry pomegranate lemonade or orange syrup for a delicious orange pomegranate lemonade

Make It Spiked Lemonade

For an adult take on pomegranate lemonade, add 1 to 2 ounces of vodka or gin to your glass before pouring in the lemonade.

If serving at a party, place small bottles of vodka out next to the pitcher of lemonade so guests who want to imbibe can easily do so white still allowing everyone to enjoy the full pitcher of lemonade.

How to Store Pomegranate Lemonade

You can store pomegranate lemonade in the fridge for 3-5 days. To maintain its freshness, keep any leftover lemonade in a sealed pitcher or container, like a quart mason jar, to prevent any odors from affecting its flavor. Before serving, give the pomegranate lemonade a quick stir to ensure that all the ingredients are well mixed.

How to Seed a Pomegranate

To seed a pomegranate, start by slicing off the very top of the pomegranate (the end that looks like it has a little crown) and gently scoring the outer skin into sections using a very sharp knife.

Submerge the pomegranate in a bowl of cold water and gently break it apart to release the arils (juice + seeds). The arils will sink to the bottom of the bowl, while the white pith and skin will float to the top. Strain out the pith and skin, then drain the arils and gently pat them dry on paper towel before using them as a garnish for your pomegranate lemonade.

Seeding a pomegranate can be a messy process, so if you don’t want to deal with it, you can always buy arils in containers at the grocery store. Look for them in the refrigerated produce section near the pomegranate juice.

Refreshing Pomegranate Lemonade Recipe

Ingredients
 

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1.5 cups simple syrup
  • 3 cups cold water
