Fresh lemonade is the quintessential summer drink. With Michigan blueberry season falling right in the middle of summer, I love creating a fresh twist on classic homemade lemonade with this blueberry lavender version.

After testing this on my family and girlfriends (it’s perfect for a summer girl’s night!), I took a pitcher of it to a neighborhood summer party that was mostly adults and their teenage boys. After about 10 minutes someone asked if I had more lemonade. That someone was one of the teenagers. Turns out the boys LOVED this recipe and had gotten to it before the adults, resulting in an empty pitcher. Thankfully I was close to home and could easily whip up another pitcherful.

Blueberry Lavender Lemonade has just the right amount of lavender flavor, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and sweet juicy blueberries to create a wonderful drink for summertime. Make it your signature drink for backyard barbecues and family parties.

Ingredients

Ingredients for blueberry lavender lemonade.
  • Fresh blueberries – Fresh berries work best, but you can use frozen blueberries in place of the fresh berries. Let the berries thaw first and add both the blueberries and any juice created from thawing them to the blender when making this recipe.
  • Fresh lemon juice – Squeeze fresh lemons (about 1 lemon per ounce of juice) or buy high quality bottled lemon juice. Go for a quality brand like Real Lemon. It costs more than store-brand lemon juice or what comes in a plastic lemon-shaped bottle, but will be worth the price for the fresher taste.
  • Lavender simple syrup – Easily made at home, lavender syrup only requires three ingredients. Get the recipe over on my lavender simple syrup page.
  • Water – Filtered tap water, club soda, or plain sparkling water all work great in this recipe.

Recipe Tips

If you don’t mind – or want – pieces of blueberries in your drinks, you can skip straining the blueberry/lemon juice mixture.

Feel free to use frozen blueberries instead of the fresh ones, just thaw them first before blending.

Consider how you’re using dried lavender to garnish your drink. A small sprig clipped to the outside of a serving glass is cute. Dried lavender buds sprinkled all over the top of a glass will get into your mouth as you sip, leading to a bad drink experience.

Can I Make Blueberry Lavender Lemonade Ahead of Time?

Yes! Follow the instructions for the lemonade, then cover your pitcher and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Don’t add ice cubes to the pitcher. Instead, add them to each glass as you serve the lemonade. Adding them to the pitcher leaves the ice cubes to melt and dilute your homemade lemonade. When you’re ready to serve, give the lemonade a good stir before pouring over ice.
