A refreshing twist on a classic cocktail, a Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini shakes up quickly and is an ideal sip for your next warm weather happy hour.
This is a favorite cocktail in our house on hot summer days. Blueberry and lemon are the perfect combination and make an ideal flavor pair for this delicious cocktail.
Michigan ranks in the top 5 of blueberry producing states in the U.S. Which means come July our farmers markets are filled with sweet and delicious blueberries. Blueberry syrup is always in the fridge during the summer months, which means Blueberry Lemon Drop martinis get shaken up quite often.
They're made with simple ingredients but feel fancy with their sugared rim and gorgeous color making this fruity cocktail recipe the perfect drink for your next dinner party.
I love serving these bright and fruity drinks with a salty appetizer or two, like these whipped feta bruschetta with sun-dried tomatoes or my slower cooker savory spiced nuts.
What's in a Blueberry Lemon Drop
- Vodka - Choose your favorite plain, good quality vodka for this recipe.
- Blueberry Syrup - You can find blueberry syrup in specialty grocery stores but I highly recommend making it! Homemade blueberry simple syrup uses 3 ingredients and takes less than 10 minutes to make. Head over to my blueberry syrup recipe page for the recipe and all the details!
- Lemons - Fresh lemons are a must in any lemon drop martini. You’ll need about half a lemon per cocktail. You can use the lemon zest in the drink’s garnish - see my note below under “how to garnish…”
- Orange Liqueur - A little sweet orange liqueur plays up the overall citrus flavor in this drink. Choose your favorite orange liqueur. Triple sec works well here.
- Sugar (garnish) - Plain white sugar or any kind of decorative sugar works well here. Choose any color you like and have fun with it!

How to Garnish a Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini
The classic lemon drop garnish is a sugared rim with a lemon twist or lemon slice. I love to combine this idea by grating a little lemon zest onto a plate and tossing it with sugar to create a lemon-sugar rim. (Which is what I did for these photos).
To emphasize the blueberry part of the cocktail, place a few fresh blueberries on a cocktail pick or float a few frozen blueberries in the cocktail.
Recipe Tips
- Blueberry syrup can be made up to 2 weeks ahead of time, so be sure to make it before you want to have your cocktails. You want the syrup to have time to cool completely before using it in your drinks.
- Roll your lemons on the counter while pressing down firmly to release all of their juices before slicing and juicing for your cocktails.
- Lemon Drops are tart cocktails, and this one is no exception. Prefer a sweeter drink? Add more blueberry syrup - 0.25 ounces at a time - until it’s to your liking.
