    • Blue Lagoon Cocktail Recipe

Created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the 1960s, the Blue Lagoon cocktail is a classic tropical drink that’s often overlooked and rarely found on menus anymore. But this delicious drink couldn’t be easier to make and is worth adding to your home bar menu.

A traditional blue lagoon recipe is made with lemonade. I’m changing that up here because I don’t usually have lemonade on hand. But I do keep the ingredients for lemonade - lemon juice, water, and sugar - always in the house. For this recipe we’re adding those in as individual ingredients so we’re essentially making lemonade as we also make the cocktail.

I love serving bright and sweet tropic cocktails with easy, light snacks. Try your Blue Lagoon with my whipped ricotta dip with homemade crostini or smoked salmon bites with cucumber.

What’s in a Blue Lagoon Cocktail?

Ingredients for a blue lagoon cocktail.
    • Vodka - Choose your favorite plain vodka for this recipe.
    • Blue Curaçao Syrup - A sweet blue syrup flavored with oranges, this syrup is easy to make at home with just a few pantry ingredients. Get the recipe and instructions over on my Blue Curaçao Syrup page. You can swap this out for Blue Curaçao Liqueur if you prefer.
    • Lemon - Fresh squeezed lemon juice will always give you the best flavor in your drinks. You’ll need about half a lemon per cocktail for this recipe.
    • Club Soda or Sparkling Water - Use whichever you have on hand for this recipe. If you want a sweeter drink, swap the soda water out for lemon-lime soda.
    • Maraschino cherries (optional) - These are for garnish. Add one if you like them, skip them if you don’t.
    • Orange (optional) - Use slices of fresh orange for garnish.

    Homemade Blue Curaçao Syrup

Blue curaçao syrup is easier to make at home than you may think! With only a few ingredients this bright, orange-flavored syrup is a replacement for blue curaçao liqueur. Get my recipe, including a natural blue coloring option, over on my Blue Curaçao Syrup page.
